Die "Biotic Explorers Research Group" von Julian-Anthony Hespenheide ist eine fiktive Vereinigung und die gemeinschaftliche Anstrengung von Wissenschaftlern aus verschiedenen europäischen Ländern, die an der Grenze von technologischen Erforschungen im wissenschaftlichen Kontext unter dem US-amerikanischen Büro für den transkontinentalen Wissenschaftsaustausch in den 1970er und frühen 80er Jahren gearbeitet haben.
Während Ihrer Untersuchungen, reisten die Wissenschaftler weit um die lokalen Biota zu beobachten und ihr Verhalten zu erforschen und aufzunehmen.
Wegen der streng geheimen Natur des Projekts ist nur ein geringfügiger Teil der bis zum Schluß 45 durchgeführten Untersuchungen sowie ein Entwurf für eine neuartige Kommunikationstechnologie, welche auf einem Pilznetzwerk aufbaut, mit Hilfe einer unbekannten Quelle wieder aufgetaucht.
Die Ergebnisse dieser Bergung wurden in zwei artefaktische Objekte kondensiert: Ein Buch, welches neben den chronologischen angeordneten Berichten auch weiteres Material (Illustrationen, Diagramme, topographische Karten) der Wissenschaftler in sich trägt sowie ein Versuchsaufbau der neuartigen Kommunikationsmaschine.
Passagen von den vielfältigen Berichten werden zum ersten Mal der Öffentlichkeit vorgestellt. Nach der Vorlesung, wird die öffentliche Präsentation der Biotic Explorers Research Group mit einer Demonstration der Kommunikationsmaschine ein für alle mal abgeschlossen.
Der Vortrag und die Eröffnung ist am 22. Mai - die Ausstellung vom 23. bis 28. Mai.
„The Biotic Explorers Research Group“ from Julian-Anthony Hespenheide is a fictitious association and the collaborative effort of scientists from different European countries that worked on the borders of technological explorations in a scientific context under the administration of the U.S. Department for Transcontinental Scientific Exchange during the 1970s and the early 1980s. In their researches, they traveled far and wide throughout Europe to visit different locations to observe, record and explore the behaviour of the regional biota.
Due to its classified nature only a marginally small amount of reports, out of 45 conducted researches and experiments, as well as the blueprints for a possible novel communication technology, based on fungal networks, could be retrieved from an unknown source. The results are distilled into two artefactual objects: A scientific book containing reports and their accompanying illustrations and scientific diagrams, ordered chronologically. The other object is an experimental setup, instantiating the communication technology that was discovered by the Biotic Explorers.
Passages from the diverse reports will be presented for the first time to a public audience. After the reading, a small demonstration of the machine will conclude the public appearance of the Biotic Explorers Research Group once and for all.
The lecture will be the opening of the exibition from 23rd to 27th of May.
